Developing yourself as a senior medical leader

Doctors in hospital talking

This one-day workshop seeks to empower experienced medical leaders and support them in refining their leadership approach as you transition into senior leadership roles, focusing on self-reflection and personalised development. You will engage in interactive exercises to identify your own values and leadership qualities and explore practical approaches to leading in challenging situations. You will create an individual reflective log and action plan, enabling you to immediately apply your newfound insights into your daily practice, ultimately making you more effective medical leader within your healthcare organisation.

This workshop forms part of the Leadership Series and contributes towards the ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº Doctors as Leaders accreditation. To gain the accreditation, you simply need to attend this workshop and the Leading teams and culture in senior medical roles workshop.

What will you learn?

This 1-day workshop will help learners to:

  • reflect on the importance of self-reflection and continuous development within a senior role
  • discuss and debate the challenges of transitioning into a senior leadership role
  • consider the roles power and influence play in senior leadership within the NHS, and assess the implications of their misuse
  • identify and assess the suitability of your approach to leadership, considering your own values and qualities as a leader
  • examine the challenges of leading in difficult situations and the challenges to effective decision making
  • evaluate your current state of leadership, and ability to create ‘moments of greatness’.

This workshop is approved for 6 external CPD credits.

This workshop is primarily aimed at consultant level doctors of all specialties and SAS doctors of equivalent experience. It may also be beneficial for those close to CCT with prior leadership training, but we would encourage you to get in touch to confirm suitability.

Alternatively, there are two workshops that are more appropriate for residents and equivalent SAS doctors with less leadership experience:
