Vinay is a third-year medical student at Queen’s University Belfast.

Vinay is grateful to represent Northern Ireland on the SFDN Committee and is committed to serving as a proactive voice for medical students and foundation doctors. He aims to support professional development opportunities, research involvement, and educational resources, ensuring that trainees are well-equipped to navigate their professional journeys.

Vinay is passionate about advocating for the unique needs of students and junior doctors in education and training policies ensuring their perspectives shape solutions to existing and future challenges.

In his role, he aims to strengthen support from the ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº for the next generation of clinicians, promote mentorship opportunities and contribute towards a supportive and inclusive environment. He is committed to facilitating collaboration among trainees to tackle challenges collectively, reduce barriers, and foster engagement with the ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº, empowering trainees to build confidence and prepare for fulfilling careers. 

Thomas Fleetwood Law

SFDN representative for Oxford and Thames Valley

Thomas is a first-year foundation doctor at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire, having graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2024. Passionate about a career in obstetrics and gynaecology, he is committed to enhancing patient care through quality improvement and research. Thomas previously served as an ambassador for the British Undergraduate Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (BUSOG), promoting the specialty to medical students. He now serves as the FY1 representative at Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust, supporting colleagues with initiatives like a buddy system and FY1 newsletter.

As the newly elected SFDN representative for Oxford and Thames Valley, Thomas is committed to championing the needs of medical students and early-career doctors and strengthening their engagement with the ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº. He is particularly passionate about advancing women’s health advocacy within the ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº, with a focus on improving teaching on all aspects of reproductive healthcare for medical students and foundation trainees alike.

Isata Fofanah

SFDN representative for Yorkshire

Isata is a final-year medical student at the University of Leeds, soon to begin her role as a specialised foundation doctor in the Yorkshire and Humber region. In addition to her medical studies, she has completed an MSc in Cancer Biology and Therapy, with a particular interest in academic oncology.

Passionate about supporting her peers, Isata currently serves as the SFDN representative for Yorkshire. She looks forward to collaborating with fellow SFDN members to improve the mental health and wellbeing of medical students and foundation doctors, address issues like burnout, and advocate for enhanced training opportunities for medical students and doctors. 

Ashna Arif

SFDN representative for Mersey and North Western

Ashna is an foundation doctor in the Mersey and North Western region. She completed her undergraduate MB BCh BAO at Queen’s University Belfast in 2024.

Additionally, she undertook clinical electives in New York and Chicago and a research elective at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, exploring her passion for academic research.

Ashna enjoys teaching and takes opportunities to do informal and formal departmental teaching at the hospital. During medical school, she held executive committee roles in medical societies, such as AMSA NI and Students for Global Health. 

As an SFDN representative, she aims to advocate for students and foundation doctors’ needs, and foster collaboration within the medical community and ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº. When she’s not working, Ashna is always happy to connect over a quick coffee and good conversation!

Ifeoluwa is a third-year medical student at the University of Leicester.

Arham Bari

SFDN representative for London (North)

Arham is a fourth-year medical student at Imperial College London, currently intercalating in endocrinology.

He has a keen interest in endocrinology, research and medical education. Arham has served as co-president of the Imperial Endocrinology Society and Year 4 Coordinator for ICSM MedED, roles that allowed him to organise conferences, lecture series and career development events. 

He joined the SFDN committee to help amplify the student voice and contribute to promoting opportunities that support professional growth and inclusivity. Arham is also passionate about widening participation and mentoring, recognised through his outreach work at Imperial. His future aspirations include pursuing an academic career in medicine with a focus on endocrinology, research and teaching.

Sanjay Rajput

SFDN representative for London (North)

Sanjay is a final-year medical student at University College London.

He completed an intercalated BSc in medical sciences with cardiovascular science, graduating with a first class honours, and has since developed a strong interest in cardiology and intensive care medicine. Alongside his studies, he served as chair of the UCL cardiology society, leading national teaching initiatives and an academic conference that reached hundreds of medical students across the UK.

Outside of medicine, Sanjay has a keen interest in strategy and entrepreneurship, developed through work at EY consulting and involvement in EdTech start-ups. He hopes to draw upon these experiences in his ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº role to develop innovative approaches to engagement and professional development within the student and foundation doctor community.

He is excited to work with the SFDN to strengthen engagement between students, foundation doctors and the ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº, and to help create inclusive opportunities for professional growth and collaboration.

Oluwakemi Balogun

London (South West)

Kemi is a fourth-year medical student at St George's, University of London. She has actively contributed to widening participation through her work with Melanin Medics, a charity dedicated to advancing representation and supporting black medical students and aspiring doctors.

She is passionate about medical education and currently supports junior medical students as a peer anatomy tutor. Kemi is committed to mentoring, improving morale and strengthening access to opportunities for future doctors.

She looks forward to collaborating with fellow SFDN members to enhance training and professional development across the medical student and foundation doctor community, with a particular focus on prioritising wellbeing, fostering equity and supporting mentorship. Her clinical interests include general practice and obstetrics and gynaecology.

Tomislav Lukic

SFDN representative for London (South West)

Tomislav earned a BSc in biology at Florida Atlantic University before pursuing medicine at St. George's University.

His previous experience includes working as a seventh-grade math and science teacher and serving on Fort Lauderdale's Education Advisory board, working to alleviate common problems faced by all students.

Tomislav looks forward to engaging with other medical students and ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº members to expand learning and professional development opportunities for all.

Max Powell

SFDN representative for London (South East)

Max is a medical student at King’s College London with an interest in plastic and reconstructive surgery. He previously completed a first-class BSc (Hons) in medical sciences at the University of Edinburgh, where he co-founded and served as secretary of the medical sciences society, supporting academic initiatives and student wellbeing.

Passionate about enhancing medical training and fostering engagement among his peers, Max has volunteered across diverse healthcare settings, providing emotional support to paediatric patients and mentoring individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He has also conducted research into racial and sexual minority health disparities, aiming to improve inclusivity and equity in clinical practice.
 
As SFDN representative, Max looks forward to collaborating with fellow members to advocate for meaningful training opportunities, promote wellbeing among medical students and foundation doctors, and ensure the perspectives of future clinicians are reflected in ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº initiatives.

Aditya Thakur

SFDN representative for Northern

Aditya Thakur is a second-year medical student at Newcastle University.

He has a degree in psychology from the University of Western Ontario in Canada, where he gained experience in cognitive neuroscience and adolescent health research. His current interests include leveraging technology to advance medical education and improve patient care.

Aditya is eager to work with the SFDN committee and champion initiatives that enhance training quality and promote fairness and inclusion in medical education in the UK. He hopes to help build a learning environment that empowers future clinicians to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care.

Michael Bryan

SFDN representative for Oxford and Thames Valley

Michael is a fifth-year MB-PhD student at the University of Oxford, funded by Cancer Research UK.

His research focuses on novel immunotherapy approaches, including cancer vaccines for gliomas. He previously completed a pre-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School in the department of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery. 

Michael advocates for medical students and junior doctors navigating increasingly competitive training pathways. He understands the challenges faced by those pursuing academic medicine and alternative career routes, where structured guidance and support are often limited.

As a committee member, he hopes to represent Oxford and Thames Valley by bringing forward the experiences of students and foundation doctors. He looks forward to working with the ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº to improve training conditions, career guidance and support structures.

Nicky Ahadi

SFDN representative for South West

Nicky Ahadi is a fifth-year medical student at the University of Exeter.

Nicky is particularly interested in medical education and internal medicine. She is passionate about research and supporting her peers to get involved in academic projects. 

Since the beginning of medical school, Nicky has been actively involved in several regional and national medical societies to promote student engagement in research and professional development. She enjoys taking part in research as it allows her to continue learning and contributing to the field.

As the South West representative, Nicky looks forward to working with others to help medical students and foundation doctors become more involved with ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº.

Naabil Khan

SFDN representative for South West

Naabil Khan is a fifth-year medical student at the University of Exeter. Passionate about equity, representation and inclusion within healthcare and medical education.

Alongside her medical studies, Naabil is the creator of Skin For All, an online educational platform designed to improve representation of dermatological conditions across different skin tones. Her work is driven by a commitment to diversifying the medical curriculum, promoting public involvement in medicine and ensuring that conversations about representation in healthcare lead to meaningful, long-lasting change. 

Naabil has delivered talks at numerous national and local platforms, including TEDxNHS, TEDxTruro, and the British Medical Association (BMA) student conference, where she discussed decolonising healthcare and addressing racial inequities within medical education.  

Through her various projects and advocacy work, Naabil aims to inspire the next generation of clinicians to value representation and equity as fundamental to medical practice. As a committee member, she hopes to better understand how medical students and future doctors can shape a healthcare system that is inclusive, just, and responsive to the needs of all communities.

Yi-Huan (James) Tang

SFDN representative for West Midlands

James is a final-year medical student at Aston University.

He is interested in medical education and workforce policy and is joining the SFDN to advocate for issues important to medical students and foundation doctors, including fair competition ratios for specialty training, high-quality postgraduate training and strengthened wellbeing and career support.

He has held several leadership roles at Aston, including deputy representative to the BMA, founder of Students for Global Health Aston and president of the Dermatology Society, and is committed to bringing a clear, evidence-informed student voice to the committee.
