MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) examination

The MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) diploma is essential for all physicians who train in a medical specialty in the UK.

The three royal colleges of physicians of the UK share a common membership examination in general medicine: the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK)) diploma. Successful candidates who pass all three parts are eligible to apply for the award of the MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) diploma.

The MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) examination is divided into Part 1 and Part 2 and has three separately assessed components:

  • MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) Part 1 examination
  • MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) Part 2 written examination
  • MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) Part 2 clinical examination (PACES).

Following completion of the MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) examination, successful candidates are invited to attend an MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) new members ceremony at the ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº.

Election to membership

To be elected to membership, a candidate must pass all parts of the MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) and complete a form of faith. Once the form of faith has been received, verified and processed satisfactorily, election can take place.

For details on how to fill in the form of faith visit the .

Candidates who have been elected to membership can either obtain their MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) diploma at the MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) new members ceremony or by post.

Candidates should expect to receive their diploma within 6 weeks of being elected to membership. However, timescales may vary. Please allow 3–6 months for delivery of the diploma to addresses outside of the UK.

MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) new members admission ceremonies

Following completion of the MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) examination, successful candidates are invited to attend an MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) new members ceremony at the ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº at Regent's Park building in London. Newly elected MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) holders will receive their certificate from the ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº president at the ceremony.

Delivery of the MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) diploma

The ÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº uses the 'signed for' service provided by Royal Mail for diplomas posted within the UK only. Diplomas sent to addresses outside the UK are not tracked and will be sent by normal post. Candidates are strongly advised to ensure that their correspondence details are correct and up to date in their MÄÛ²ÝÓ°Ôº(UK) online account as this will help to avoid any loss or delay of the item.

Diplomates who require a replacement diploma are advised to submit a request to the email address below. A £35 charge will apply, unless you are a fellow of any of the three royal colleges, in which case no charge will apply. A replacement diploma should be issued within 2 weeks of the fee being processed.
